Woman Wins Medical Malpractice Lawsuit in Missouri for Embedded Needle

If you have a condition such as bulging or degenerative disks in your back, it’s natural to go to the doctor and trust that he or she will be able to help you. Most people tend to place their faith in doctors and the treatments they prescribe. According to an article on the St. Louis Post-Dispatch website, one woman did just that, only to find that she would be living in terrible pain for the next several years.

At the time, the woman was sixty-two years old and the prescribed treatment was injections via hypodermic needle into her back. During treatment, a one and a half-inch-long needle became embedded in her back, and over the next seven years there were five separate attempts made to extract it.

The article stated that the needle has migrated six inches, and doctors are not sure if extracting it is going to be possible at this time. Because she brought her case to an attorney, she was awarded more than half a million dollars.
