Woman Dies in Boating Accident at Lake of the Ozarks

A High Ridge woman has died after a boating accident at Lake of the Ozarks. An adult male and a female child in the same boat have serious injuries, while two other adults in the boat have minor injuries. This was a preventable accident, made worse by the presence of alcohol, that had a horrific outcome.

The accident happened after midnight when a 1995 Sea Ray hit a 2005 Formula. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Sea Ray has been charged on four counts related to boating while intoxicated. A BUI is just as serious an offense as a DUI, and carries severe penalties under the law.

Boating safety and alcohol education are of the utmost importance in the summer months, and we encourage anyone that enjoys spending time out on the water to take the proper precautions to protect their safety and the safety of those around them. Many people don’t realize that boating while intoxicated is incredibly dangerous and carries severe legal penalties. This was a life or death situation that tragically resulted in death.
