The pickup truck was headed east on Walnut Street in Springfield. The other vehicle involved was a minivan that was headed north on the Kansas Expressway. The pickup truck driver ran a red light and slammed into the side of the minivan injuring four people inside.

The minivan landed in a nearby ditch and, fortunately, the injuries were moderate. All four were treated at a nearby hospital. Witnesses told the police officers that the three men in the pickup truck fled the scene on foot and eventually got into another vehicle.
