Malfunction Elevator Case Nets Large Jury Award

Getting stuck in an elevator is something that a lot of people are afraid of. Unfortunately, it does happen in St. Louis from time to time. In most cases, there are no injuries and everyone is safe, even if they are inconvenienced. But there are times when a malfunctioning elevator can lead to injury.

Elevator Malfunctions and Drops Two Stories

One man was working at a building in New Jersey, doing carpentry work in 2006. During one of his shifts, he took the elevator, only to have it fall two floors. The man did sustain some serious injuries, including permanent damage that had been done to his spinal cord. As a result, he was unable to return to work.

The Jury Awarded a Staggering Amount in Compensation

To date, the man has been awarded $10.3 million as a result of his injuries. There have been two trials for his case and that amount represents the sum of both judgments awarded in his favor.

While the cash awards will not take away his pain and suffering, they will help with his day-to-day life. Sadly, far too many people don’t seek compensation when they are injured.
