Dog Bites are a Big Problem for Mail Carriers and Others

You’ve undoubtedly heard the old adage that says that dogs will often try to attack mail carriers, and while you might think that’s a harmless old wives’ tale, a recent survey shows that it is, in fact true. According to an article in the Kansas City Star, almost seven thousand mail carriers suffered from dog bites across the United States last year. This number is an increase of about 14% compared to the year before.

Of course, that number pales in comparison to the total number of people who were bitten by dogs last year, which was around four and a half million. Most of those people were children.

In light of the increase in dog bites among mail carriers, the United States Postal Service is putting some measures into place that might help. For example, for those people who are having packages picked up at their homes, they will be required to alert the USPS as to whether or not they have a dog.

As your St. Louis dog bite attorneys, we know that such measures might help, but they won’t stop all dog attacks. Whether you are a USPS worker or not, a dog attack is a very serious matter. Even a small bite can cause a lot of damage. We invite you to contact us if you are bitten by a dog. An experienced St. Louis dog bite attorney can help you.
