Bicyclist Struck by Car, Critically Injured

A lot of people go for bicycle rides every day, sharing the road with vehicles of every kind. When you see someone riding a bike, it can be frustrating to have to wait for them, forgetting that they have to follow some of the same traffic rules that automobile drivers have to follow. And it can be very easy to miss seeing them entirely… until it is too late.

According to an article in St. Louis Today, a 21 year old man was riding his bicycle near the intersection of Page Boulevard and Euclid Avenue, in the Fountain Park neighborhood of St. Louis, early Wednesday morning. He was struck by a vehicle shortly after 7:30 am. He has been taken to the hospital in critical condition, while an accident reconstruction team is on the scene in the ongoing investigation to piece together the events surrounding the accident.

While anything can happen on the road, many times, a bicycle accident is caused due to negligence of automobile operators. Some of these types of negligence can be:

  • Turning into a bicyclist’s path
  • Failure to yield to a bicyclist
  • Running a stop sign or red light
  • Inattention to the road because of distraction
  • Driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol
